Two Types of Chromite Ore Stratiform Podiform Occur as lenses, pods, or slabs within Alpine-type um rocks and/or ophiolites Compositionally rocks are overall peridotites—usually serpentinized Interpreted to be broken up layers • Parallel layers from mm to m in thickness • Laterally continuous • Crystal settling in a mafic/um magma; usually cyclic in nature; mono or bimineralic in nature • Bushveld, Great Dyke; Stillwater; Bird River Sill, Muscox Intrusion
