  1. Genetics and fertility: Addressing the issue of genetic complications causing infertility IVI Middle East Fertility Clinics promote advanced treatments in Reproductive Medicine to help couples with genetic disorders to conceive Abu Dhabi, UAE, xxx August 2019:IVF experts have long recognized the impact of genetic anomalies on fertility, with some of these issues being women-related, some being related to male infertility, and some being a combined factor of both. According to a Huffington Post report, genetic factors such as chromosomal aberration, Endometriosis and Fibroids, and other genetic issues may contribute to infertility. An industry report, "The Genetic Basis of Infertility," has also identified single gene defects and phenotypes with multifactorial inheritance as some genetic factors that may influence infertility. During evaluation, doctors may ask the couples who have experienced repeated miscarriages and who have family history of genetic diseases, to undergo relevant tests to ascertain the risks that pertain and then recommend proper treatment procedures. "It is difficult to clearly measure the full impact of genetics on the mounting number of infertility cases globally. Over the years, fertility experts have been investigating how a person's genetic history can affect his or her fertility level. Significant progress has already been attained in this regard and in fact in our region (Middle East), a lot of prevalenece of genetic cases has been found," said Dr. Laura Melado - IVF Specialist, IVI Middle East Fertility Clinic Abu Dhabi. "Through continued studies, we hope to consistently enhance current treatments and come up with more advanced techniques in Reproductive Medicine to assist couples who have been found with genetic complications. These efforts have already resulted in several treatments and solutions with high success rate - with a majority of them being implemented at our Abu Dhabi & Muscat clinics", added Dr. Laura. In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) combined with other reproductive treatments may help in addressing health conditions related to single-gene disorders, such as Sickle Cell Disease, Thalassemia, Cystic Fibrosis, and Tay Sachs disease;

  2. chromosomal abnormalities such as Down syndrome, and other genetic issues that have proven to cause infertility. Patients undergoing IVF are tested for potential genetic problems before starting a cycle. Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS) and Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) are useful to prevent the transmission of a genetically inherited abnormality to an offspring. It is mostly recommended to older patients, to those who have suffered multiple unexplained pregnancy losses, or to those who have been through multiple failed rounds of IVF. "To take things one step ahead, at IVI Fertility, we also offer the Carrier Genetic Test (CGT) to help us identify the presence of genes that cause diseases in the couple, thus lowering the risk of the disorders being passed on to their children. When both parents are carriers of a mutation of the same gene, it is possible for the child to be affected as well. This test is critical since one in every 100 babies is diagnosed with some kind of genetic disease. We can detect up to 600 diseases using this technique. While it does not cure genetic diseases, CGT is an effective way to help us in addressing the risk of transmission," Dr. Laura said. The ever-evolving field of Reproductive Medicine is continuously providing hope to couples with genetic diseases. IVI Fertility Clinics Middle East - IVF Clinic Muscat, IVF Clinic Abu Dhabi, and IVF Clinic Dubai, are fully committed to delivering treatments tailored to the best interests of patients. The clinic employs the best global practices supported by the latest technology, the most up-to-date knowledge, and evidence-based medicine.
