  5. PORTAL • CSUF Portal – www.fullerton.edu • CSUF is the most technically advanced CSU campus and we are proud of that fact. Therefore, we require you to use this technology. • To obtain registration information, grades, and information on holds you would use your portal. www.fullerton.edu • Be sure to use “New Titan Online” and your “Student Center” • Everything will be pushed to you electronically. You want to make sure you check your CSUF email address regularly.

  6. Welcome Packet • Welcome Packet is mailed to all newly admitted students. • The Packet includes: • An individualized Advising Worksheet • If applicable evaluation forms • Steps on What to do now? • Link to the Graduate Student Handbook (GSH) • The Welcome Packet was mailed out with your admission letter from the CBE.

  7. Online Handbook • The CBE GSH is located on the Current Student Website • http://business.fullerton.edu/graduatehandbook • It is critical to your success in the program to review the handbook immediately. • Many of the FAQ that I receive have been included in the handbook.

  9. Registration Tutorial • Registration Tutorial • Click on: “Registration / Fee Payment (Student Center)” • Provides information on adding, dropping, and swapping classes as well as information on waitlists.

  10. Important Deadlines Ethics Quiz must be completed and faxed to (714) 278-1247 prior to enrolling. Evaluation Forms are due back to my office by 9/15/2008. (Step 6) Concentration / Elective Approval Forms are due back to my office by 10/1/2008. (Step 12) Replacement Approval Forms (MBA Only) are due back to my office by 10/1/2008. (Step 13) Appointment with Advisor 12/1/2008.

  11. Evaluation • All evaluation forms were provided to you in your packet. • The forms & Evaluation Check list are due back, to my office, no later than September 15, 2008 • Forms will not be accepted after the deadline. • Forms turned between now and 9/15/08 will be returned via mail by middle of October.

  12. Continuous Enrollment • You must maintain continuous enrollment during regular semesters (summer sessions and intersession excluded) until award of your degree • If you need to take a break in your attendance, you must apply for a leave of absence • Students are not eligible for a leave of absence their first semester in the program. • If you are on probation, you CANNOT apply for a leave of absence

  13. Time limits for Completion • All requirements for the master's degree, including all course work on the student's study plan, normally should be completed within five years. • A student may request an extension of the five-year time limit by filing a petition with the Graduate Studies Office.  

  14. Graduation Check • Prior to the start of your final semester you are required to submit a graduation check. • Due dates can be found in the class schedule. • Grad check forms are located in the Admissions & Records Service Center in LH114.

  15. Course Load How many classes should I take? • Students Working Full Time: • Recommend no more than 3-6 units of coursework • Students Working Part Time • Recommend no more than 9 units of coursework • Graduate Students may enroll in a maximum of 12 units per semester.

  16. Academic Dishonesty • Includes cheating, inventing false information or citations, plagiarism, and helping someone commit an act of academic dishonesty. • Violating this policy makes you subject to disciplinary sanctions • Familiarize yourself with the academic integrity guidelines in your student handbook

Academic Probation • What is it? • A graduate student will be placed on Academic probation if either the cumulative or the study plan grade-point average falls below 3.0. • A graduate student will be placed on academic probation if they are not progressing fjjf towards their degree. • Any coursework taken at the 400/500 level will have an impact on your overall GPA.

  18. Academic Probation A grade of “C” is considered a passing grade and may not be repeated. A grade of D or F is a failing grade and must be repeated. However, there is no repetition of coursework policy at the graduate level. Grades of “WU” are considered failing and must be repeated. Students may apply to have the most recently earned grade count toward the GPA. This may be applied only to the first occurrence of “WU”.

Academic Probation • MS Accountancy, MS Taxation, & MS Information Systems: In addition are: • Required to maintain a 3.0 in three separate sections of your study plan. • Foundation, Pre-requisites, & Required area • 300 level courses will not be calculated for your overall GPA; however, you must maintain a 3.0 .

Academic Probation • Students who are placed on academic probation have two consecutive semesters to remove themselves from probation. • Prerequisites courses such as BUAD501, Math135, ISDS265, & ISDS513 may not be used to raise your Study Plan GPA. • Students who are unable to raise their GPA to a 3.0 by the end of their second consecutive semester may be removed from the program.

  22. Why do students go on Academic Probation? Fail to stay organized Procrastination Take to many courses Overextend themselves Think that graduate courses require the same amount of work as undergraduate.

  23. Organizational SkillsSteps for Creating a Semester Schedule Collect all of your course syllabi. Create Time Management Calendar. You will need four copies of the calendar, one for each month of the semester. Using your course syllabi, fill in on each of the term's monthly calendars all of your exams, papers, short essays, presentations, quizzes, and due dates for other important projects. Using these calendars, you can see which weeks of the semester will be the busiest, and plan your time accordingly. If you have several tests and papers during one week, you may want to start studying several weeks in advance to avoid cramming!

  24. Know Your Limitations Only you can determine if it is wise to enroll in 1, 2, 3, or 4 courses. When on probation it is wise to reduce your course load. If you are financially able you may want to consider reducing your work hours. Communicate with your family and friends so that they can support you during busy times.
