Higher Apprenticeships Definition • Renaissance in Apprenticeship Training: • 500,000 Apprenticeship starts in 2010/11 AY • Largely confined to craft and technician level job roles at Levels 2 and 3 • Participation: • 3,500 Higher Apprenticeship starts in 2010/11 AY • Equivalent to Degree levels at: • Level 4 = Higher Education Certificate • Level 5 = Foundation Degree level • Level 6 = Bachelor’s degree level • Level 7 = Master’s degree level • Higher Apprenticeships respond to employers’ higher level skills needs: • Support business growth • Meet individuals’ career aspirations • Enhance opportunities for social mobility National Apprenticeship Service

Higher Apprenticeships Participation • Participation dominated by Level 4 Accounting • Growth previously limited by the availability of frameworks • 11 frameworks available January 2012 • 26 frameworks available on Apprenticeship Frameworks December 2012 • 17 more frameworks in known development during 2013 National Apprenticeship Service
