  11. Pilot Training Classes held in Fall 2005 and Winter 2006 5 Training Classes held so far in Fall 2006 and Winter 2007 (via 319 Funding) 259 individuals certified voluntarily committing to BMPs Results

  12. Very positive feedback Results of in class material application comparing current practices EYE OPENING FOR EXAMPLE….. Results

  13. Projected Reductions up to 90% Rate reduction calculated in class From an attendee’s parking lot 250,000 sq ft Example 1 Before training they would typically apply 1,500 lbs of rock salt a day following a storm Training recommends 150 lbs

  14. Projected Reductions up to 94% Example 2 Rate reduction calculated in class From an attendee’s parking lot 10,000 sq ft Before training they would typically apply 400 lbs of rock salt a day following a storm Training recommends25 lbs

  15. Example 3 Ridgedale Mall Parking Lot/ Sidewalks/ Service Roads 80 acres BIG! Real Reductions of 50-75% Before training they would typically apply 10-12 tons of rock salt following a one day storm event Since training they have been concentrating on mechanical removal and are applying 3- 5 tons of rock salt following a one day storm event. They say there is still room for improvement but they are excited about the changes they have tried so far.

  16. Example 4 University of Minnesota Reductions since training: • Rock Salt – 617 tons (65%) • Ice Melt – 80 tons (65%) • Sand (w/10% salt) – 288 tons (92%) Savings - $55,071 Real Reductions of 985 tons See Attached Write-up for details
