Animal Symbolism Project • 1. Think of an animal • 2. Make a list of character traits to describe that animal • For example: Monkey • Adventurous • Curious • Humorous • Mischievous • Skillfull • Wild
Directions • Line #1 = Name the Animal • Line #2 = Simile using “as” – to show what character traits the animal symbolizes • Line # 3 = Simile using “like” - to show what character traits the animal symbolizes • Line #4 = A metaphor - to show what character traits the animal symbolizes • Line #5 = Use personification - to show what character traits the animal symbolizes
What is a Simile? • A simile compares two unlike things and uses “like” or “as” in the comparison As repulsive as a two week old egg salad. As crazy as a mad man. As peaceful as a running waterfall. Like a plane soaring high into the blue sky. Like a jumping pogo stick. Like a really moldy orange.
What is a metaphor? • A metaphor is a comparison of two unlike things without using “like” or “as”. Is a quick jet. Is a long, wriggling slinky. Is an avalanche of courage
What is personification? • Personification is a special kind of metaphor in which a nonhuman or nonliving thing or quality is talked about as if it were human or alive. Makes the sky echo with laughter as it leaves its trail behind. Even the nest it builds trembles in fear.
