Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Also know as Medical Laboratory Technologist-(MT) • Analyzes human blood, tissues and body fluids for diagnosis and treatment for diseases • Supervises the performance of thousand of laboratory test by other laboratory personnel • Are problem solvers • Correlate test results and interprets the finds

  3. Area of Specialization-CLS OR MT • Generalist • Immunohematology (Blood Bank) • Clinical Chemistry • Microbiology • Urinalysis • Toxicology • Immunology • Serology

  4. WORKING ENVIROMENT • Most work in a large hospital • Other work in reference lab., public and government health agencies, research laboratories, pharmaceutical firms • Blood Donor Center • Equipment Companies • College and Universities • Self-employed

  5. Length of Training • Bachelor’s Degree from a University • Hospital based training program • Student must have completed a Bachelor degree in a science program • Certification program • 12 months • Toxicology • Immunohematogy-Blood Banking • Microbiology

  6. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION • Voluntary Certification, but most job required certification to be hired • Most graduate from accredited CLS program to be eligible to take national exam • Student are eligible to take the national exam from AMT, ASCP or NMT
