  3. What’s Worth Memorizing • The Pythagorean identity: cos2x+ sin2x= 1 • The reciprocal properties: • cot x = 1/tan x where tan x 0 • sec x = 1/cos x where cos x 0 • csc x = 1/sin x where sin x 0 • The quotient properties: • tan x = sin x/cos x • cot x = cos x/sin x

  4. What’s Not • The other two Pythagorean identities: • 1 + tan2x = sec2x • cot2x + 1 = csc2x • Be able to prove the above from the other Pythagorean identity, sin2x + cos2x = 1.

  5. Homework • Due Wednesday: • Read Section 4-2 (pp. 158-161). • Do: • Exercises Q1-Q10. • Exercises 1-13 odd, #6.

  6. Clean-up / Reminders • Pick up all trash / items. • Push in chairs (at front and side tables). • See you tomorrow!
