Comparison of SW480 and SW620 CRC Cell Morphologies

This study compares the morphologies of SW480 and SW620 colorectal cancer (CRC) cells grown on standard cell culture plastic without additional coatings. Images were captured approximately 60 hours after cell passaging, with both samples at the same magnification. SW480 cells, originating from primary tumor tissue, exhibit a more adherent morphology. In contrast, SW620 cells, derived from lymph node metastasis in the same patient, appear smaller and more spindle-shaped. Such morphological variations are also noted in fibroblasts transformed by Src family kinases (SFK).

Both images were taken ca. 60 h after cell passaging and are shown at the same magnification. The SW480 cells, which are derived from primary tumor tissue appear more attached. SW620 cells, derived from a lymph node metastasis of the same patient appear to be on average smaller and more spindle shaped. Similar morphological changes are, for example, also observed with fibroblasts upon transformation by SFK.
