  1. Project: IEEE P802.15 Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Submission Title: [Resolution for Modulation related Generic PHY comments] Date Submitted: [July 15, 2010] Source:[Kuor Hsin Chang1, Bob Mason1, J.L.Taylor2] Company: [Elster Solutions1, DTC (UK)2] Address: [] Voice: [] E-Mail:[kuor-hsin.chang@us.elster.com, robert.t.mason@us.elster.com, larry.taylor@discretetime.com] Re: [Comment Resolution for TG4g draft] Abstract:The presentation provides resolution for some channelization related comments Purpose: Presented to the 802.15.4g SUN Task Group for consideration and discussion Notice: This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE P802.15. It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). 2. Outline • Comments to be resolved: • CID# 606, 609, 624, 1145, 1149, 1185, 1203, 1204, 1205, 1206, 1215, 1786 • Recommend Resolution • Resolution Detail

  3. Comments & Recommend Resolution • CID# 606: • Comment: The mode descriptor works for FSK but no other modulation type. That's not very "generic". • Recommend Resolution: Accept in principle • Resolution detail: Generic PHY will only be defined for FSK in the next draft. OFDM and O-QPSK modulation schemes are not defined for Generic PHY. • CID# 609: • Comment: Document says: "FSK is the only modulation scheme with defined parameters.“ (Propose “This generic PHY mechanism should allow other types of modulation to be defined with their specific parameters.”) • Recommend Resolution: Accept in principle • Resolution detail: Resolution same as CID# 606. • CID# 624: • Comment: should define the OFDM modes for Generic PHY descriptor • Recommend Resolution: Reject • Resolution detail: Resolution same as CID# 606.

  4. Comments & Recommend Resolution (Cont’d) • CID# 1145: • Comment: The generic PHY descriptor includes a "modulation scheme" field. When ModulationScheme = 1, OFDM FFT size should be defined • Recommend Resolution: Accept in principle • Resolution detail: Resolution same as CID# 606 • CID# 1149: • Comment: The generic PHY descriptor includes a "modulation scheme" field. When ModulationScheme = 2, relevant DSSS parameters should be defined. • Recommend Resolution: Accept in principle • Resolution detail: Resolution same as CID# 606 • CID# 1185, 1203, 1204, 1205, 1206: • Comment: Lines 22-31. Since Generic PHY parameters for OFDM and O-QPSK are not defined, in the Range field, mark values 1-3 as reserved for ModulationScheme and delete "NOTE — if specific parameters are not defined for the other modulation schemes, values 1–3 will be left as reserved." • Recommend Resolution: Accept Slide 4

  5. Comments & Recommend Resolution (Cont’d) • CID# 1215: • Comment: Additional modulation types should be called out as a future ammendment to this specification. • Recommend Resolution: Reject • Resolution detail: Resolution same as CID# 606 • CID# 1786: • Comment: OFDM should be removed from the generic PHY. • Recommend Resolution: Accept Slide 5
