  6. E-Portfolio 12 Tips to Success!

  7. Tip #1 Find Appendix 21 in your handbook/blog/website. Read over all items listed as evidence that you will place in your E-portfolio. If you don’t understand what it is, look in your handbook in the appendices section and/or ask your supervisor!

  8. Appendix 21 - #1 QuestionWhat is Glasser’s Choice? Take a look at the Power Pt found on the GA TAPP website! REMEMBER – 5 BASIC Needs according to Glasser • Fun • Freedom • Power • Belonging • Survival

  9. Tip #2 • Download the E-portfolio template . Where is it? • Metro RESA Website/ GA TAPP Blog • Alternative Preparation Program - right • Current GATAPP or OYSP Candidates • GATPP/OYSP Resources • Portfolio template

  10. Tip #3 – Optional • Create 24 (manila) folders with labels of each competency. • Cut up Appendix 21 or write out the evidence that is required • Periodically review the list and place evidence in the folders. • Note: This is ideal for items not in an electronic format yet!

  11. Tip #4 Purchase a 4 GB flashdrive that will be dedicated to just your E-portfolio. Create e-folders to organize information – organize the information how your brain works. Show e-file organization! Be sure to label all documents with as much information as possible. Ex: Supervisor observation 1 9.21.10 (When saving -Do not use symbols like #)

  12. Tip #5 • Locate a scanner/ learn how to use it • Locate a video camera/ learn how to use it • Review / learn how to insert/create hyperlinks • Review / learn how to insert pictures

  13. Tip #6 To Insert hyperlinks: • Highlight word/phrase that you want to link to the document • Click on the Insert tab • Click on hyperlink – globe with chain • Locate the document - be sure the document is in the same folder. Click ok. Ex: Supervisor observation #1 9.21.10 • Demo (Remember One Click Rule)

  14. Tip #7 To hyperlink video clips: • Click on the Insert TAB • Write out Video Clip. Follow the same procedures for hyperlinking. • Find where the movie is located • Click open • Demo

  15. Tip #8 To insert a Picture: • Click on the Insert TAB • Click on Picture icon • Find where the picture is located • Click open • Demo

  16. Tip #9 Video clips • Video tape clips rather than one large segment. (30 seconds to 2-3 minutes) • Download the video clips to your computer. • Common file extensions – wmv, mov, avi • If you need to convert – I can recommend Zamzar - http://www.zamzar.com/

  17. Tip #10 • When working on your E-portfolio, save ALL work on your desktop and on your flashdrive! • SAVE, SAVE, SAVE!!!

  18. Tip #11 E-Portfolio Template Slides: Note: On the portfolio template I created 2 slides for each competency. If you don’t need both, delete one! If you need more, add what you need!

  19. Tip #12 – Important Reminders Before you turn in your portfolio to your supervisor: • Run spell check! Have someone else read your narrative – does it make sense? • Check all hyperlinks and videos on a different computer. • Save your portfolio on another flashdrive – I am suggesting 3 copies (2 flashdrives and one computer) 1 flash will be turned in. • Metro RESA will check your portfolio on a PC – sometimes there are problems when using MACs – especially the video clips and sound. • Be prepared to present/discuss your E-Portfolio at your final CST meeting. This is your moment to shine! • Please understand the final step is approval from the Metro RESA office – We need only finished products!

  20. Finally… Start NOW! Not a weekend task! You will be glad you started early! 

  21. What if you still have questions… • Discuss your selection of evidence with your mentor first – they know your work! • Ask your supervisor • Email or call Lakeetha or Sheree
