General Principles Committees • There should be fewer standing Committees which report to Council on a regular basis because their work is perceived to be long term • These committees should have a Chair and Vice Chair, appointed by Council • The terms of reference (TOR) and reporting frequency should be set by Council • The Committee will set their own milestones for action, resources and membership from within and without Council to get the tasks done Working parties • Will be agreed by Council to undertake discrete pieces of work over a defined time period • After a working party has achieved its objectives it will be disbanded • They will normally have a Chair appointed by Council • In all other respects they will function as committees ( see above) Excellence in Musculoskeletal Medicine, Exercise Medicine and Team Care www.fsem.ac.uk

Appeals Committee Chair-Prof. Angus Wallace (2015 -2019) Terms of reference • To organise a committee of appropriate people to investigate an appeal • Two committees refer to the Appeals Committee, examinations and nominations • This committee will need to co-opt people to assist in difficult decisions and to ensure transparency Excellence in Musculoskeletal Medicine, Exercise Medicine and Team Care www.fsem.ac.uk

Appraisal and Revalidation Committee Chair – Dr D Pugh (2016-2020) Vice Chair –Dr Mike Carmont (2018-2022) Terms of reference • Set and monitor FSEM (UK) appraisal structure in line with GMC revalidation requirements • Support GMC revalidation requirements of Fellows/Members as appropriate • Insure appraiser pool is sufficiently experienced and quality assured • Set appraisal costs and appraiser remuneration in conjunction with FSEM Treasurer • Manage the suitable person and ensure he/she is compliant with GMC requirements • Chair or delegate to attend AoMRC (or other) meetings Excellence in Musculoskeletal Medicine, Exercise Medicine and Team Care www.fsem.ac.uk

Clinical Advisory Committee Chair – Dr P Bennett (2015 – 2019) Terms of reference • Review and recommend Council responses to external policies (including NICE) • To help manage the process of creating FSEM position statements relating to SEM • Review and recommend Council responses to M/F papers on governance and clinical matters Excellence in Musculoskeletal Medicine, Exercise Medicine and Team Care www.fsem.ac.uk

Consultant Appointment Advisory Committee Chair – Vacant Terms of reference • To assess SEM job plans/descriptions • To assess the suitability and experience of candidates for Consultant posts in SEM in the UK (and where possible and upon request to identify a Faculty Representative to sit on a consultant appointments committee) where requested to do so and to work within national frameworks Excellence in Musculoskeletal Medicine, Exercise Medicine and Team Care www.fsem.ac.uk

Education Committee Chair – Dr J Newton (2017 - 2021) Vice Chair-Dr Chris Tomlinson (2018-2022) Terms of reference • Academic content of annual conference and other events • Memorandum of Understanding with BASEM • Seek to influence Undergraduate education content in SEM via a working party Excellence in Musculoskeletal Medicine, Exercise Medicine and Team Care www.fsem.ac.uk

Examinations Committee Chair –Dr T Swan (2013 – 2018) Vice Chair-Dr A Nicol (2016-2020) Chair Ultrasound Standards Group – Dr T Wedatilake (2016 onwards) Terms of reference • Set standard and develop content of FSEM examination in line with Curriculum and GMC guidelines • Explore expansion of examination under direction of Council, working party • The Examinations Committee includes Ultrasound Standards Group as a sub-group Ultrasound Standards Group Terms of Reference • To offer Fellows and Members assessment in diagnostic ultrasound Excellence in Musculoskeletal Medicine, Exercise Medicine and Team Care www.fsem.ac.uk
