  1. Mobile units (PDA, Wearable PC etc.)as tool for DNV surveyors and customers Surveying is a mobile job, it involves taking decisions in the field and reporting these back to the DNV database and the ship/owner/yard. Todays tools to support the surveyor to carry out these tasks are the paper copies of the rules and instructions and the notebook and camera. Tomorrows tools may be a pocket PC with integrated camera which will be able to give access to all rules and IS, to display all drawings and the 3D model, to browse all history of the vessel, to browse history of similar vessels and similar cases and to allow notes and pictures to be entered directly into the format of the database. It may also allow for mobile videoconferencing so that experts at MTP may be directly involved in the decisions onboard. Work has been started to prepare for this future. The cases we have identified as interesting fall into the categories of • Work Planning • Decision support • Data collection • Guidance and demonstration This presentation give a short summary of how we have started to work in this direction with some illustrations to show possibilities.
