  2. What is a Health Center? A SBHC is a “health center, located in a school or on a school campus, that provides onsite comprehensive preventive and primary health services. Services may also include mental health, oral health, ancillary, and supportive services.” (MD SBHC Standards, April 2006, p. 5)

School Based Health Centers in Maryland • Maryland has 61 school based health centers. • 100% treat acute medical problems. • 100% are treating chronic medical problems. • 85% are offering sports physicals • 93% are offering nutritional counseling to combat and prevent obesity. • 81% are offering mental health services. • 46% offer on site oral health services.
