After 20 years absence, he returned to find his wife, Penelope, looking for a new husband. Men were competing to see who could draw Odysseus’ bow; whoever could do this would be Penelope’s new husband. He competed and in the end, won his wife back.

  8. Heracles Heracles, or Hercules, was the son of Zeus born of a Theban girl. Zeus’ wife, Hera found him and sent snakes to kill him. He overcame them at 8 months old. He slayed and captured many animals and beasts. He found a woman who unwittingly killed him by giving him a poisoned tunic to wear. He was saved and given immortality by the Gods.

  9. The Aztecs’ Journey to Anahuac The Aztecs set out on a huge migration southward, as they were told to by their war god Huitzilopochtli, whom told them that there, they shall form a temple for him and in that place the people shall make their home and their dwelling. They were led by a bird, with which there task was to find a sight where an eagle with a snake in its mouth would be sitting on a cactus in the midst of a lake. In other stories, the hero is driven by the reward of love or the opportunity of power.
