Program Changes 1st Semester 2nd Semester Accelerated Reader (AR) additional to English requirements Lack of direction Lack of resources Lack of collaboration between department AR in conjunction with English requirements Focus on non-fiction reading, comprehension skills Study Island, Learning Point Navigator, mimic test layout Lesson sharing and discussion via email and meetings

  5. Program Missteps Overwhelmingly Special Education students 3 out of 6 instructors HQT English Students not consistently grouped by reading level or skill weakness Tier 3 attempt without Tiers 1 and 2 established

RtI 2011-2012 RtI Reading RtI Math Focus on Tiers 1 and 2 Concentrate on “bubble” students Utilize Spring DCAS and Spring STAR scores as Universal Screener Progress Monitor throughout 1st semester and make necessary changes at midyear Create curriculum: Successful Reader, Organizational and Study Skills, Study Island, Comprehension and Non-fiction skills Focus on Tiers 1 and 2 Concentrate on “bubble” students Utilize Spring DCAS and Spring STAR scores as Universal Screener Progress Monitor throughout 1st semester and make necessary changes at midyear Create curriculum: Saxon Math, Organizational and Study Skills, Study Island, Focus on numeric, algebraic, geometric and quantitative reasoning
