  3. What is FD? The aim of FD is to improve operational effectiveness through individual and collective knowledge, trg and skills. This, in turn, leads to the increased preparedness and enhanced competence of all personnel to carry out their duties, either in situ or deployed on exercise or operations. (AP3379, Leaflet 2410)

FD Guidance & PolicyAP3379 - Lft 2410 - Conduct of FD Activities Lft 2415 - Staff RidesAP3342 – ATAP7000 – Professional Military Development (Air) • FD is (was) a command-led activity – greater move to ‘centralised’ • Aims & Obj linked to the GETR, SMP, Ex programme, & stn cdr’s intent • Available to all RAF personnel, Civil Service & contractors who directly support RAF’s ops – “Whole Force Concept” • Units are to provide all personnel with at least one ‘quality’ FD trg activity every 3 years • Enable individuals and teams to develop their knowledge and skills within a structured trg environment • Each activity must be justified and have sound reasons for taking place • A consistent approach should be adopted across the stn/Service.
