This initiative aims to sustain and enhance the operations and maintenance of the Global Seismological Network (GSN) and the Global Federation of Digital Seismograph Networks (FDSN). Key objectives include expanding real-time telemetry capabilities, improving operational uptime and data availability, and advocating for open access to seismic data. The program will facilitate data management coordination and establish targets for developing advanced seismology instruments and extending monitoring capabilities into oceanic regions. By fostering collaboration within the GEOSS framework, the initiative ensures comprehensive global coverage and data sharing.

GEOSS Target 003 • Sustain GSN/FDSN operations and maintenance. • Expand real-time telemetry capabilities and robustness for the GSN/FDSN stations. • Improve operational uptime and data availability of GSN/FDSN. • Advocate free, open access to real-time seismic data from GEOSS in situ Observing Systems and facilitate data-sharing among GEOSS members. • Facilitate data management coordination within GEOSS for seismological data, metadata, and products. • Establish GEOSS Six-year target to develop new very-broadband seismometers for seismology and tsunami warning. • Advocate and coordinate use of GSN/FDSN as a logistical framework for other GEOSS in situ measurements. • Establish GEOSS Ten-year target to extend global seismological coverage into the oceans through synergy and shared logistical infrastructure with GEOSS in situ ocean observing systems .
GEOSS Target 091 • Establish the GSN/FDSN as existing baseline sites for global in situ networks, and review GSN/FDSN as a logistical framework for other GEOSS in situ measurements. • Sustain operations and maintenance of GSN/FDSN. • Produce an inventory GEOSS in situ ocean observing systems, their logistical infrastructure and their potential for synergy with other in situ measurements.
