  1. The SEVEN Resiliencies (Adapted from Project Resilience by Steven and Sybil Wolin)

  2. How do you face challenges? • Like most people, you may show some key strengths when facing difficulties. • RESILIENCE can help you get through the tough times. Let’s look at these attributes.

  3. INSIGHT Asking questions of yourself, even when the questions are difficult. If you answer honestly, you can learn and move forward. It is about understanding the problem.

  4. INDEPENDENCE Keeping a healthy distance between yourself and other people to do what is best for you. Also knowing when to step away from people who seem to cause trouble or make things worse in action or word.

  5. RELATIONSHIPS Finding connections with people that are healthy for both of you. Keeping those positive connections going.

  6. INITIATIVE Taking control of the situation and working to solve it. Moving beyond a problem with honest questions and answers. Leadership in activities.

  7. CREATIVITY Using your imagination or resources to express feelings, thoughts, and plans in a unique way. Making things happen leads to resiliency of spirit and a positive attitude.

  8. HUMOR An ability to find something funny (especially about yourself!) even when things seem really bad. Relieves tension and gives you a new perspective.

  9. MORALITY Know the difference between right and wrong, and choose to stand or take action for what is right.

  10. How do YOU demonstrate “resiliency” in your life? Please give some thought to the strengths you possess. Think of problems or difficulties you have experienced. Use the handout to identify which resiliencies you have used to help you through difficulties.
