Quiz for you: • I can read a menu in French, English, and another language. • I have several favorite restaurants in different countries of the world. • During the holidays, I know how to hire a decorator to identify the appropriate themes and items with which to decorate the house. • I know who my preferred financial advisory, legal service, designer, domestic-employment service, and hairdresser are. • I have at least two residences that are staffed and maintained. • I have at least two or three “screens” that keep people whom I do not wish to see away from me. • I fly in my own plane, the company plane, or the Concorde. • I know how to enroll my children in the preferred private school. • I support or buy the work of a particular artist. • I am on the boards of at least two charities. • I know the hidden rules of the Junior League.

Make school inviting… • Provide background noise – music, kids playing • Make events “family friendly” • Be approachable • be funny, but not degrading • build relationships • “own” the children • provide customer service • dress “appropriately” • Value the parents’ time, even if they don’t value yours • Validate their contributions • showing up • supporting role as a parent • Explain the hidden rules • (EOC, KPrep, RTI, where’s the restroom, call to make an appointment, how detention works) • Make your events entertaining, then surprise with information • Think of hosting events at comfortable places

Our Model: • Families on Campus Uplifting Students – send home in 1st day folder • Trojan Ambassadors – Plan it…Own It!!! • Freshmen Orientation Centered Upon Success • Meet the parents in a positive way before school even starts • Make it important to the kids, and the “family” will follow (social event, free shirt, recruit the kids, get schedule early) • Socials- Paint Up, Sophomore S’mores, Junior Mints, Senior Sundaes • Career and Technical Education Night – at the local ATC • Asked alumni to come back to talk about themselves • Pink Out & Gold Rush (combined with homecoming) – Hospitality room open to all families – counselors there to talk about ACT, senior info, FAFSA forms, career planning, etc. • Afterschool awards night – family friendly, everyone recognized • Show their students in a slideshow…They are a part
