  2. The movies that I have chosen to be my favorite TOP Ten all hold a special place in my heart. Some of them are comedies, however, most are dramas. Many of the stories are about people and/or animals being on a search for their self identity. I love movies that I can relate to one way or another!!

  3. 10. THE NOTEBOOK (2004) • Starring: Ryan Gosling, Gena Rowlands, and James Garner • Genre: Romance/Drama • Plot: This story is about two young people who find love during the 1940’s. Fate and circumstances drive them apart only for them to be reunited seven years down the line. The movie is a flashback of the main character’s nostalgia of the past. • * Tear-Jerker *

  4. 9. ANTWONE FISHER (2002) • Starring: Denzel Washington and Derek Luke • Genre: Drama • Plot: This story is based on the life of Antwone Fisher. He was a quick tempered young man who found refuge in the psychiatrist on his naval base. In trying to find the source of where all his anger stemed from, he must come to terms with the childhood that he had to endure. Along the way, he meets the love of his life and his biological family that he never had the opportunity to meet until now. • * Tear- Jerker *

DIVINE SECRETS OF THE YA-YA SISTERHOOD (2002) • Starring: Sandra Bullock, Ellen Burstyn, Maggie Smith, Ashley Judd, and James Garner • Genre: Comedy/Drama • Plot: This story is about the never ending tension between the mother daughter relationship. After a harsh fight over the phone, the mother’s friends kidnaps the daughter from her life in New York. They bring her home to the south with a mission to get the daughter to understand why her mother is the way she is; in order to do this, they most inform the daughter about the mother’s past.

THE MISTS OF AVALON (2001) • Starring: Anjelica Huston, Julianna Margulies, and Joan Allen • Genre: Fantasy/ Drama • Plot: This “Made For Television” movie is based from the book by Marion Zimmer. It is a story about the legends of King Arthur and Camelot told from the perspective of the women in King Author’s life.

THE LION KING (1994) • Starring: James Earl Jones, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, and Matthew Broderick • Genre: Animation/Family • Plot: The story is about a young lion cub who prides himself on someday following in his father’s footsteps of becoming King. After an unexpected tragedy, the son goes on an adventure to find who he is and along the way meets two great friends.

SWEET HOME ALABAMA (2002) • Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Josh Lucas, Patrick Dempsey, and Candice Bergen • Genre: Romance/Comedy • Plot: This story is about an ambitious fashion designer who is adamant about getting rid of her “southern belle” persona. She obtains to become New York’s next socialite. After meeting and falling in love with the Mayor’s son, she realizes that she has to take a trip back home to fully break away from her old self. The conflict arises when she realizes that everything she ever wanted is right there at home, the last place she ever thought it could be.

  9. 3. A WALK TO REMEMBER (2002) • Starring: Shane West and Mandy Moore • Genre: Romance/Drama • Plot: The story is about a trouble teenage boy who finds refuge in an unlikely classmate. As their friendship grows and changes into a romantic relationship, so does their outlook on life.

FORREST GUMP (1994) • Starring: Tom Hanks and Robin Wright Penn • Genre: Comedy/Drama • Plot: The fictional story is a coming of age look into the life of a young boy who had to face many obstacles to prove himself worthy of the affection of his best friend. The movie is tagged with many historical and monumental references, all of which Forrest experiences first hand. It makes you look inside yourself and explore what it really means to be intelligent & wise, and by whose standards.

  11. 2. THE FIRST WIVE’S CLUB (1996) • Starring: Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn, and Diane Keaton • Genre: Comedy • Plot: The story is about a group of college friends who reunite after a tragic death. Upon getting to know each other again, they realize that they all have something in common…their husbands left them for younger women. As a result, they seek revenge.

  12. LOVE & BASKETBALL (2000) • Starring: Omar Epps and Sanaa Lathan • Genre: Romance/Drama • Plot: The story is about two best friends who grow up together with the same dream of playing professional basketball. Eventually, they must overcome many obstacles; however, their greatest test will come from the love they have for each other.
