  2. ABORTION is the intentional termination of a pregnancy after conception.

  3. Abortion is legal! But should it be?? • Abortion has been legal in the United States since 1973. The Supreme Court ruled in Roe V. Wade that women have the right to make medical decisions about their own bodies. Some people support abortions their defense is the embryo is not a person, but I disagree my defense is it may not be a person now but eventually it will.

  4. Is abortion right at any time? I feel the only time abortion is right is if the is a case were a girl has been raped and she became pregnant.

  5. Percentages among women of abortions! -two percent of all pregnancies not including miscarriages end in abortion. Forty percent of pregnancies among white women, 67% among blacks and 53% among Hispanics are aborted.

  6. Should Parents Know? • For underage kids should their parents know that they are doing it? • If I had a daughter and she was having an abortion I want to know. That is my daughter and if she is underage I would take the baby and raise it. I am doing it myself now. • I have a strong feeling that abortion is WRONG!!!!

  7. Statistics and estimates Of the 77 countries with liberal abortion laws, 36 are in the developing world. In 2008, abortion rates in the 25 countries with complete records. 64 are home to 98% of women aged 15–44 who live in the countries the reported abortion rates were incomplete and varied widely

CLINICS!! 2006–200 The 378 specialized abortion clinics accounted for 21% of all abortion providers, but performed 70% of all abortions in 2008 Most of these facilities reported 1,000 or more abortions during the year. of 473 no specialized clinics accounted for 24% of all abortions; some were similar to abortion clinics in having caseloads of 1,000 or more abortions per year

  10. Types of Abortion Procedures • During an abortion, the pregnancy is removed from the uterus. The options vary depending upon the stage of pregnancy. • The Abortion Pill is an option up to 8 weeks • 24-72 hours later, the woman uses Misoprostol to cause the uterus to contract and expel the tissue

  12. Making The Decision! • Making the decision is probably harder that actually doing it. • Making the choice to destroy something that is apart of you is hard. • Once you go threw birth and they lay your beautiful baby girl/boy on your chest you regret even thinking about it.

After Abortion • Cramping, similar to menstrual cramps, but sometimes more intense • May experience bleeding or spotting 3-6 weeks after • After abortion your cervix's may be open for a period of time. 1 week for first trimester abortions and two weeks for 2nd trimester. • Pregnancy can occur any time after an abortion

Information For After Birth • Do not use tampons until your next period (in 4-8 weeks). • Do not douche, have intercourse, or put anything into your vagina for 1-2 weeks, as specified. • Do not take a tub bath or go swimming for 1-2 weeks, as specified. You may shower or kneel down in a bath tub and sponge off. • Avoid strenuous exercise (aerobics, running) and heavy lifting (over 15 pounds) for 1-2 weeks, as specified. • Avoid aspirin, alcohol and marijuana. These may cause heavier bleeding.

  15. What do I need to do? • Uterine massage can help decrease cramping. To perform uterine massage, use the heel of your hand and push inward firmly on your abdomen while rubbing in a downward motion, from your navel to your pubic hair line • Take your temperature every day for the next week; a fever may be an indication that you are developing an infection • Use maxi pads until your next period. • Take all of your prescribed medications as instructed. • Return to the Clinic or see your referring physician for a checkup 2 to 3 weeks

  16. Would You Need Social Support? • If you have no social support after your abortion occurs if there is no one there you will feel alone. Your relationship with that person will decrease and eventually it will fade away. • Everyone needs somebody, Social support is very much needed.

  17. What if it was your kid • Would you feel the same about abortion if you was in the situation? • I was in that situation once up on a time but abortion NEVER crossed my mine. I don’t want to judge anybody but in my eyes ABORTION is wrong. • I was sixteen when I was found out I was 2 months along when my son was born I was 17 thing were complicated, but it is true when they say good things come to those who wait, I now no its true , My son is nine months old and very healthy, we have our own house and care it is just me and him. Watching him grow and smile everyday makes me very happy. “He makes life worth living.”

CONCLUSIONS • Supporting a woman’s abortion decision-making process, addressing the division of labor between women and men regarding pregnancy prevention. • Deciding to have an abortion was easy for some and difficult for others • For some women, choosing abortion was the decision they wanted, both at a gut level and intellectually

  19. Decrease abortion • if we decrease abortion the world would be a better place. Our population wouldn’t die out. • There are people that want to have kids but can’t, so if your not trying to keep the baby then let someone that wants to have a baby have it to give it the love and support it needs
