  1. Croeso i Gymru! Welcome to Wales! My name is Catherine Zeta-Jones. I’m a Welsh actress. Did you know that Wales’ national symbol is the dragon? It’s even on our flag!

  2. Capital City & Government The Capital City of Wales is Cardiff. Wales’ Government is a Constitutional Monarchy and Commonwealth Realm. Wales is part of the United Kingdom. Above is a picture of the capital building at Cardiff, Wales.

  3. Climate Wales has a temperate climate, which makes it not too cold and not too hot. It is typically cloudy, wet, and windy, but has much nicer weather near the coast. Above is a picture of cars driving through the wet streets.

  4. Snowdonia National Park Snowdonia National Park is named after the highest peak in Wales, Snowdon Mountain. It is located in northwestern Wales at 3,561 feet (1,085 meters). Many people visit to hike and climb the mountains. Above is a picture of people sitting on one of the mountains at Snowdonia National Park.

  5. RiverTywi The River Tywi is located in southwestern Wales. It is the longest river that is entirely in Wales. It is approximately 65 miles long and empties into the Carmarthen Bay. Above is a picture of the River Tywi.

  6. Education All Welsh children between the ages of 5-16 must attend school. Ages 5-10 attend a primary school. Ages 11-16 attend a comprehensive school which provides academic, vocational, and general education courses. Wales has two universities: the University of Wales and the University of Glamorgan. Translation: UNIVERSITY OF WALES INSTITUTE, CARDIFF

  7. WelshPirates There were many famous Welsh Pirates in the ‘Golden Age’ of piracy. Bartholomew “Black Bart” Roberts and Henry Morgan were famous pirates born in Wales. Black Bart is thought to have captured 470 vessels, killed thousands of men, but still ran his crew like a fair democracy. Black Bart was eventually killed in battle after his three-year career of piracy. Henry Morgan killed 1200 Spanish soldiers in pursuit of gold, and was knighted in England. He was then sent back to Jamaica and died later in 1688. This is an illustration of Bartholomew “Black Bart” Roberts.
