Overview of Florida's Energy Landscape and Regulatory Framework

Florida's energy sector supports nearly 8 million residential and over 1 million commercial customers, with a base load of 45,000 MW. The state's power generation mix includes coal (37%), natural gas (32%), nuclear (15%), and oil (14%). Florida maintains compliance with EPA's air pollutant regulations and has a streamlined permitting process via the Power Plant Siting Act, allowing for efficient energy development. The Florida Energy Office plays a crucial role in promoting renewable fuels, energy efficiency, and educational initiatives, managing over $8 million in projects.
