Methamidophos Methamidophos is a residual and systemic organophosphate insecticide with both contact and ingestion properties to control insects such as aphids, flea beetles, worms, whiteflies, thrips, cabbage loopers, Colorado potato,beetles,potato,tubeworms,armyworm, mites, leafhoppers, and many others.

  7. Uses Methamidophos is used in great quantities in ricefields in China. Rice–fish culture is common in the southern parts of China as well as in many other rice-producing countries

  8. Uses Methamidophos was found in dumplings (gyoza) manufactured in China for the Japanese market after a number of consumers became sick.

  9. Toxicity The sequence of development of systemic effects varies with the route of entry, and the onset of symptoms may be delayed up to 12 hours

  10. Symptoms • Vomiting • Diarrhea • Abdominal Cramping • Dizziness and sweating. • Nausea • Increased salivation • Lacrimation • Blurred vision • Constrictedpupils.

  11. Complicatons • convulsions • low blood pressure • cardiac irregularities • loss of reflexes • coma • respiratory arrest • paralysis of respiratory muscles • chronic health hazards • death

  12. Treatment Eyes Hold eyelids open and rinse slowly and gently with water for 15-20 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present, after the first 5 minutes, then continue rinsing eyes.

  13. Treatment Skin Take off contaminated clothing. Rinse skin immediately with plenty of water for 15-20 minutes.

  14. Treatment Ingestion Have person sip a glass of water if able to swallow. Do not induce vomiting unless told to do so by a poison control center or doctor. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

  15. Treatment Inhalation Move person to fresh air. give artificial respiration, preferably mouth-to-mouth.
