  2. Metamorphic Rocks • Metamorphic rocks are rocks that have "morphed" into another kind of rock. These rocks were once igneous or sedimentary rocks.

  3. Foliated Metamorphic Rocks • Foliated metamorphic rocks such as gneiss, phyllite, schist and slate which have a layered or banded appearance parallel to the rock that is produced by exposure to heat and directed pressure. Gneiss Phylite

  4. Non-Foliated Metamorphic Rock • Do not have a layered or banded appearance. Quartzite Marble

  5. Both have in common….. • Both foliated and non-foliated rocks begin their lives as either sedimentary, igneous or another metamorphic rock. • These geological changes can be due to heat and temperature changes deep within the earth's crust. "
