  1. SAVE MONEY NOW WE’LL SHOW YOU HOW! Presented by Mike Martin – Quick Sort Dan Ryan – Priority Mailing Systems Penny Augustine – United States Postal Service Rodger Enriquez - United States Postal Service

  2. QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN CONSIDERING COST SAVINGS • What am I doing • Why am I doing it? • Do I have to do it?

  3. CHANGE YOUR THINKING PROCESS • Have fun. Be creative! • Think outside of the proverbial box • What prevents us from thinking outside of the box ? • We’ve already tried that • There is no other way to do it. • That’s somebody else’s responsibility.

  4. COST SAVINGS STRATEGIES • Convert FedEx (overnight) services to USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation. • Identify clients that use Certified Mail with Return Receipt at time of mailing and convert to Return Receipt after mailing. • Review manual process and improve.

  5. COST SAVINGS STRATEGIES • Pay attention to the shape and thickness of your mailings. Review designs of all current and planned mailings to ensure that they are cost effective using Shape Based Pricing (SBP) requirements. For example: • A 1 oz. 6” by 6” envelope is subject to the a non-machinable surcharge of $0.17 (41 cents vs. 58 cents, a 41% increase).

  6. COST SAVINGS STRATEGIES Considering Weight + Length + Width + Thickness • 2 ounces • #10 envelope • 7 pages tri-folded • Just over ¼” thick Is it a………..? a.letter b.flat c.parcel

  7. COST SAVINGS STRATEGIES ►$.97 • 2 ounces • #10 envelope • 7 pages tri-folded • Just over ¼” thick Is it a………..? b.flat

  8. COST SAVINGS STRATEGIES • Convert #10 envelopes that are more than 1/4" thick to a 6x9 envelope and do a half fold to reduce the thickness.  6 Pages 6 Pages 6 Pages 6 Pages 7 Pages Of 20lb. – Over ¼” 6 Pages 6 Pages + = $0.97 - Flat Rate #10 Envelope 7 Pages ½ Folded + = $0.58 - Letter Rate 6” x 9.5”

  9. COST SAVINGS STRATEGIES • Identify flats with multiple documents which can be folded, and move to a 6x9 envelope and fold the documents in half.  • Duplex rather than print single sided to cut down on the number of pieces. + = $0.80 9” x 12” Flat 1 to 2 Pages 1-2 Pages Folded in ½ + = 6 x 9.5” $0.41

  10. COST SAVINGS STRATEGIES • Maximize each ounce.  If you have room to spare in an envelope with its weight and thickness, why not add a tag along marketing piece. • It is actually less expensive to mail a 2 oz letter now than it was before the last rate change. • In many cases, your best sales prospects are your current customers. Let them know about other, new products and services that you offer.

  11. COST SAVINGS STRATEGIES • Combine mail going to the same recipient.  Grouping documents into one envelope can dramatically cut postage costs. One flat at $0.97 is still less than two or three mail pieces sent at $0.58 each. • There are software solutions available from multiple vendors that can automate and combine mail jobs before they are printed.  This will cut down on postage, labor and supplies.

  12. COST SAVINGS STRATEGIES • Review shipping requirements and supplies being used. Consider USPS services/supplies to reduce cost and create efficiency.

  13. RATE INCREASE SNEAK PREVIEW • On May 12 we will adjust prices First-Class Mail, Standard Mail, Periodicals, Package Services, and Special Services. The average increase by class of mail is at or below the rate of inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index. • A First-Class Mail stamp will be 42¢. Customers can continue to use the Forever Stamps they purchased for 41¢, even after the price change. We will have 5 billion Forever Stamps in stock to meet increased demand before the price change. • No change in the First-Class Mail single-piece additional-ounce price. • Lower additional-ounce price for presorted First-Class Mail letters. • Lower pound price for Standard Mail saturation and high-density flats. • Shape-based pricing for First-Class Mail International letters, flats, and parcels. • First-Class Mail International price groups expand from five to nine groups.
