  2. What are your favorite animals and why? What are your least favorite animals and why? If you could be an animal, what animal would it be and why? Sinia’s favorite animals are house cats and big wild cats like tigers and panthers. She likes house cats because they are fun to cuddle and have a personality. She likes wild cats because they are cute like small cats but are tougher and stronger. Sinia’s least favorite animal is the wombat. Wombats are like small, fat, bears that eat your food if you leave it in the camp ground. If Sinia could be an animal, she would be an eagle. Sinia thinks it would be fun to fly above a forest for fun. Interviews Work with a partner to answer these following questions -

  4. Raining cats and dogs! This means - Pouring rain Example - I forgot my umbrella, and it was raining cats and dogs.

  5. Go ape! This means - To be very excited Example - When the students did not do their homework, the teacher looked like she was going to go ape!

  6. Curiosity killed the cat! This means - Don’t be nosy Example - When Tom asked Kate where she spent her money, she said, “Curiosity killed the cat.”

  7. Let the cat out of the bag! This means - To tell a secret Example - Who let the cat out of the bag about the surprise party?

  8. Smell a rat! This means - To think someone is against you Example - I told my brother not to tell my parents that I went out, but I could smell a rat as soon as I opened the door.

  9. Top dog! This means - The #1 person in charge Example - When we have group work, Anna always leads our group. She is the top dog.

  10. Cat got your tongue? This means - Why are you so quiet? Example - It looks like the cat’s got your tongue, Damian. Are you always this quiet?

  11. Sick as a dog! This means - You are very ill Example - Matej didn’t go to school today because he was as sick as a dog!

  12. Hog heaven! This means - A great situation Example - With all of the chocolate I’ve received for Christmas, I was in hog heaven for weeks!

  13. Cat’s meow! This means - Something outstanding Example - The dress Bara wore to the ball was so beautiful, it was the cat’s meow!

  14. Quiet as a mouse! This means - To be silent Example - When the students were taking a test, they were all as quiet as a mouse.

  15. Busy as a beaver! This means - To work hard Example - Even after school, Terka is as busy as a beaver with homework.

  16. Hungry as a bear! This means - Very hungry, starving Example - After floorball practice, I was as hungry as a bear.

  17. Bark up the wrong tree! This means - Off track, the wrong answer Example - I don’t have the answers to the exam, so when Clara asked for help, I told her not to bark up the wrong tree!

  18. Black sheep! This means - The outcast, the unliked one Example - I am the black sheep of my family because everyone plays ice hockey and I do not.

  19. Bull in a china shop! This means - To be clumsy Example - When I play football I look like a bull in a chinashop.

  20. Cat nap! This means - A short rest or sleep Example - I’m going to have a cat nap while you’re cooking dinner.

  21. Copy cat! This means - Someone who does the same thing as someone else Example - My brother is such a copy cat! He started playing volleyball because I play volleyball.

  22. Cry wolf! This means - Someone who fakes an emergency Example - Tom always asks for help even when he doesn’t need it, he always cries wolf.

  23. Fight like cats and dogs! This means - Always fighting Example - My brother and I never agree on the same things, we fight like cats and dogs.

  24. Horse around! This means - To play around, to be foolish Example - The teacher gets mad when we horse around in class.

  25. Hog wild! This means - To go crazy Example - The students went from horsing around to going hog wild when they found out the lesson was cancelled.

  26. Mountain out of a molehill! This means - To make a big deal out of a small problem Example - When I told my mother about my 4 in English class, she made a mountain out of a molehill.

  27. Monkey see, monkey do! This means - To do something because someone else does it Example - My little sister started saying bad words. My mother told me, “Monkey see, monkey do.”

  28. In the dog house! This means - To be in trouble Example - When I was going home late at night, I knew I would be in the dog house.
