Smoke Alarms: Do They Really Help The Hearing Impaired?

MyHearGear carries about 2,000 Assistive Living Devices for the deaf and hearing impaired. One product that is often overlooked is a Smoke or Carbon monoxide alarm that has a very high sound output and comes with a flashing strobe light. A person with a hearing loss will not only HEAR the fire/smoke/CO alarm, they will also be able to SEE alarm alerting them to danger. If you can’t hear or see an alarm going off, that can lead to deadly consequences. There are 1.6 million or more fires every year cost the lives of civilians and firefighters. Fire kills more Americans that all natural disasters combined. It’s a horrible tragedy, especially in places where hearing impaired and vision impaired live and there is no alerting system in place to warn them of fire or smoke.

  1. Smoke Alarms: Do They Really Help The Hearing Impaired? MyHearGear carries about 2,000 Assistive Living Devices for the deaf and hearing impaired.  One product that is often overlooked is a Smoke or Carbon monoxide alarm that has a very high sound output and comes with a flashing strobe light.  A person with a hearing loss will not only HEAR the fire/smoke/CO alarm, they will also be able to SEE alarm alerting them to danger. If you can’t hear or see an alarm going off, that can lead to deadly consequences. There are 1.6 million or more fires every year cost the lives of civilians and firefighters. Some different types of alarms are: -Smoke Alarm Systems with built in transmitter and receiver: You can set up wireless receivers in different parts of the house or building and a smoke alarm will send a sound and flashing light signal to each of the receivers -Plug In Smoke Alarms: Sound & Light Alarms that can be plugged in (no wiring needed by a contractor). You can move these alarms around wherever you want.

  2. -Bedside Fire Alarm & Clock: These clocks will detect the sound of fire and smoke alarms and will sound an alarm, turn on your lamp, and even vibrate your bed! It might be time for you to take inventory of what alarms you have in your home that will also alert those with hearing and vision loss. Can all the residents hear the present alarm in case of an emergency?  Are all these alarms in working order? Yes, these special alarms can be a bit more expensive than standard smoke and carbon monoxide smoke alarms.
