  2. What are the Psychological Treatments for Depression? When deciding on an appropriate counselor, it can be useful to understand the different therapies they may use. Psychological treatments or therapies can help you change your thinking patterns and deal with the certain stress. Psychological therapies can also help you stay well by identifying and changing unhelpful thoughts and behavior. There are several types of psychological therapies for depression and this presentation will be defining some of those:

  3. CBT CBT stands for Cognitive Behavior Therapy recognizes the way we think and acts really affects the way we feel. It is one of the best treatments for depression and is useful for almost all the ages. CBT involves working with a therapist to identify thought and behavior patterns that are getting you into a depression. It change your thoughts and behavior by teaching you to think rationally about common difficulties.

  4. Interpersonal Therapy It focuses on problems in personal relationships and essential skills required to deal with those. It is based on the idea that personal problems can have a huge impact on someone experiencing depression. IPT helps you recognize these problems and make you more vulnerable to depression.

  5. Behavior Therapy While behavioral therapy is a major component of CBT, unlike CBT it doesn’t attempt to change beliefs and attitudes. Rather than attempting to change someone's belief, it focuses on encouraging activities that are rewarding, pleasant or satisfying, aiming to reverse the patterns of avoidance, withdrawal and inactivity that make depression worse.
