  1. 5 Steps To An Eco-Friendly Diwali Deepavali is the biggest festival of India. It is a celebration of lights and the triumph of good over evil, right over wrong and light over darkness. Celebrated with various decorations, good food, gift-giving and festivities in various parts of India, the main essence of Diwali remains the same. To become aware of one’s own inner light, to spread joy, love and light to everyone around and to pray for light in one’s own life. In such an auspicious day, we sadly see a different sight. In the midst of celebration and fun, we see fire-crackers polluting the air and earth, extra electricity waste in every home and excessive plastic everywhere with all the food and shopping. If we want to celebrate the true message of Diwali and save our planet, we need to shift from old ways to new methods of celebration. Here are 5 steps towards an eco-friendly Diwali.

  2. 1.DIYAS AND LED – Instead of heavy lights that consume excessive energy, opt for led lights and more traditional ways of decoration such as earthen diyas and oil lamps. You can find options for lamps and clay diyas online or go to any local market for an array of choices. 2.ORGANIC RANGOLI – Use organic natural rangoli colours to decorate your house. Also consider up-cycling old decorations from the year before instead of buying more plastic items. 3.NO FIRE-CRACKERS – This is tough for many as bursting crackers have become synonymous with the festival. Try bursting fewer crackers if not none, for the sake of your planet. 4.NO PLASTIC – Shopping and good food is an integral part of Diwali, but try saying no to plastic whenever you buy new things. 5.GO ORGANIC – Buy organic and sustainable Diwali gifts for everyone.
