  2. PLAYING CATCH • Be focused and have a purpose • Hit Partner in the chest every time • Athletic Receiver – catch ball in middle of body every time • Infield is all throwing and catching

  3. PRE-PITCH • Positioning – know the situation • Athletic Position – Timing with hitter • Prep Step, Balls of Feet, Locked In

  4. FIELDING POSITION • Must Be Athletic – Feet Spread, Knees Bent, Flat Back, Balanced • Field the Ball Between Feet – Weight out Front • Get Hands Out Early

  5. APPROACH • Attack the Ball (On the Clock) • Glove Side Eye – Be efficient with steps • Keep Good Rhythm • Step Right, Spread Left • Don’t get set Late

  6. FIELD AND THROW • Positive Wrist Action Through the Ball • Feet Keep Moving – Lead the Rest of the Body • Straight Line to Target – Be Efficient • Inside Step • Follow Throws

  8. DECLARED BACKHAND • Develop Confidence with Backhand – Must work on it • Get Low and Athletic – Bend at Knees, Spread Feet • Keep Head and Eyes Level – Better Vision • Get Glove in Front of Eyes

  9. EXTENDED BACKHAND • Angles, Athletic First Step • Play Low to the Ground and Be Athletic • Reset to Target after Catch – Aggressive with Feet • Long Hop

  10. GLOVE SIDE • Easiest Play – Moving Toward Target • Read Speed and Determine Angle • Get Square to 1B – Hips and Shoulders

  11. FIRST BASE PLAY • Handles the Ball More than Anyone in the Infield • New Bats = More Defense

  12. FOOT POSITIONING • Square to the Throw • Athletic Position – Do Not Anticipate • Slide Right Foot, Stride out with Left (RH) • Walk Through the Ball • On Bad Throws – Use Entire Base

  13. SHORT HOPS • Show Glove to the Ball – Big Surface • Take Glove Back Where Ball Came From • Attack the Short Hop – Easier to Handle

  14. LONG HOPS • Stay Back on the Bag – Sink, Be Athletic • Read the Long Hop, then React • Encourage Long Hops

  15. MIF DOUBLE PLAYS • Position Pre-Pitch • Attack the Ball – Key to Getting Two • Separates Championship Teams

  16. 2B/SS FLIPS • Field Low and Stay Low • Opposite Side Foot Starts to Bag • Fingers Pinch Side of the Ball • Arm Stops at Shoulder, Feet Keep Going • Target is Partner’s Left Chest
