  1. Addendum to the MoU for M&O – LHCb Core Computing • Motivation • LHCb Core Computing is becoming increasingly important for the efficient Operation of the experiment and for the preparation of the Upgrade • It should be treated as a project (“as a detector”) shared among interested Institutes and integrated by the rest of the Collaboration • Scope of the Addendum • define sharing and tasks of the workforce for the LHCb Core Computing • bring them to the attention of the Collaboration (CB) • involve FAs (RRB approval) • Note: LHCb is the only LHC experiment NOT having a Computing MoU

  2. Type of document An addendum to the MoU for M&O (describing general rules) + Annexes. In particular Annex #3 is devoted to list the Core Computing tasks and is integrated, each year, with a proposal of workforce needed – and Institutes covering it – prepared by the computing management, submitted to approval of CB and RRB (as happens now for MOF A and MOF B of subprojects) Parties LHCb vs the Institutes and their Funding Agencies. FAs will sign the “framework” and approve year-by-year the resources requests at the October RRBs (Annex #3 with workforce request)

  3. Resource identification criteria • Voluntary basis (we hope to cover most of FTE needed – 80?) • Institutes are expected to take responsibilities (as in a sub detector) • FTE contributions should be “sizeable” • Examples like 5% x 20 pp = 100% not welcomed • Introduce criteria of “fair participation” : Institutes/FA contributing well below a “fair share” (ie like MOF A) will negotiate with LHCb management their support (in kind or in money). General contribution to Computing (ie Grid) will be also considered • Allow LHCb management to propose to use (small) part of MOF type A • Proposal of agreement on (4) and (5) made by the management submitted to the approval of CB and RRB
