  1. FAIRY TALES

  2. What are your favorite fairy tales? Explain the basic plot. Do you see any similarities? Read the following story and look for ways this story may be similar to your favorite.

  3. Predictable Elements of Fairy Tales 1. The youngest, poorest, ugliest, or most mistreated person becomes the hero/heroine, usually by proving him or herself wisest or most honorable. 2. Something or someone has to be won, attained, solved, or retrieved. (this can be anything from a fair maiden to a cup of water.) 3. A series of ordeals or accomplishments is attempted by the hero to prove himself. 4. Sometimes talking creatures or supernatural aid helps or hinders the hero. 5. Warnings or cautions may be given to the hero. (though he often ignores or forgets these, must to his pain later.) 6. Repeating of words, phrases, or even whole sentences for effect. 7. A happy ending usually occurs, but it can include death to the villains.
