How to Combine Like Terms By Gabby Freeman Period 6
What Are Like Terms? • Like terms have the same variables and exponents • The coefficients can be different • 3x, -6x, and 10x are like terms • 3x², 6x, and 3y are not like terms
How to Combine Like Terms • To add like terms all you have to do is add the coefficients and keep the variables • 4x + 3x = (4 + 3)x = 7x • 7x - 5x = (7 - 5)x = 2x • 5x – x = (5 – 1)x = 4x
