THE WRITE ATTITUDE! Savannah State University’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)
Launching and Promoting the QEP through Classroom and Campus Activities
Why is it so important that everyone know the QEP? • SACS mandates that the QEP is a university-wide, faculty-driven initiative that will enhance student learning. • One way SACS representatives assess the magnitude of university buy in is simply by asking a variety of folks, from the bus drivers and custodians to the administration, cashiers, and professors. Moreover, students will be asked since this is an initiative that must be dedicated to impacting student learning.
So how do we get students excited about the QEP without having to use force?
Getting the Word Out Students have revealed email has been rendered outdated and lame by social networking groups such as Facebook. Therefore, sending out a mass email to all students (and even all users) is futile.
If not email, then what? • The QEP committee has been working with Ms. Heyward in University Advancement on coming up with a Marketing strategy for the launching of the QEP. • While this strategy will be invaluable, we still need to do our part.
But what is OUR part? • Will it be MORE work for us? • Will it be simple?
QEP=EXCITEMENT (Right?) • Brittany Epps is currently working on a Facebook page for the QEP. This, it seems, is a surefire way to get students’ attention if we can “friend” them. • However, we do not want to rely so heavily on one medium. • This is where YOU come in.
Get Creative!! Our students are dynamic, creative, and intelligent. Using the same cliché exercises and techniques won’t do with this electronic, hyper-engaged generation.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it… Mission: The Write Attitude • Break out into small groups of 3-4 • Brainstorm a variety of exciting and engaging activities or ways to get students aware of the QEP title and initiative. • Take ten minutes and come up with as many as you can. Do not worry if they are silly or unmanageable. Be creative and original.
On your mark… Get set… GO!!!
Sniffing out the best ways of engaging students: Who wants to share?
To Conclude • Be sure to give me these brainstorming lists. We want to compile these. Plus, we want to be able to give Loretta Heyward some of our ideas as well. • How will YOU ensure your students know the QEP title and subject? Do you have the Write Attitude?
