  1. BANKRUPTCY ANDTHE BIBLE Verses from the Holy Bible that match with today’s bankruptcy code. NEWBEGINNING The common purpose of bankruptcy is to give the loyal and honest debtor a fresh beginning. In Biblical times, once you cleared the dues and paid off your debt, you received a decent compensation to allow you to function and rebuild your life positively. Found in Deuteronomy 15:12-13. 1 RELIEVEORDISCHARGE According to Deuteronomy 15:1-2, At the end of every seven years, you shall grant a release. This is how it is to be done: Every creditor who has lent anything to his fellow shall release his authority; he shall not require it of his brother, because it is called the Lord’s release. This is similar to the mechanism for discharging the debt under bankruptcy. 2 EXEMPTIONS Today's bankruptcy system has evolved. Now, a debtor is given a discharge and is also allowed to keep certain assets post the case is submitted. These assets that one can keep are known as exemptions. The Bible also talks about the same tenets of humanity and financial management and provide compensation to the debtor to restart his life. 3

  2. BANKRUPTCY ANDTHE BIBLE Verses from the Holy Bible that match with today’s bankruptcy code. REORGANIZATION The Bankruptcy Code allows people to reorganize their debts so that they can manage their living. The Bible also asks to assist and uplift those struggling financially and do our bit so that they too can come to terms with life. The expression "support him" clearly means- do not let him fall behind. Both the Bible and bankruptcy have similar sayings when it comes to reorganizing someone’s life. 4 DON'TBE ASHAMED Bankruptcy is not something to be shameful of. Rather it is a way to get back on your feet and move forward in life. Till the time its acceptable, your debts can be discharged, though there are always some exceptions. The very same concept of a discharge of debt is part of the Biblical tradition as well. Therefore, one must not hesitate to seek support when it is available. 5 HAVETHATSUPPORTFROMYOUR BANKRUPTCYLAWYER
