  1. Voltage Drop Lesson STAiR Creation By Steven Adler NEXT

  2. Definition • A voltage drop is the representation of energy used over a load device or resistance device in a circuit. • If all loads are equal the amount of energy used over each load or resistance is equal. NEXT

  3. Legend • Battery • Ground • Open switch • Closed switch • Resistance • DVOM (Digital volt ohm meter) NEXT

  4. An open circuit where power is interrupted by an open switch, their would beno power used over the load device. Place the DVOM leads on either side of the load device and set your meter to direct voltage. The meter will read the total power used over the load device.Since the circuit is open no power is used NEXT

  5. A closed circuit where power flows through a closed switch, their would betotal power used over the load device when there is only one load device (light bulb).Place the DVOM leads on either side of the load device and set your meter to direct voltage. The meter will read the total power used over the load device. NEXT

  6. Place leads from your DVOM on either side of the load devices. This circuit contains two equal loads. Since the circuit is open the power used over both loads is equal to 0v. NEXT

  7. Place leads from your DVOM on either side of the load devices. This circuit contains two equal loads. The circuit is closed so power is flowing through the loads, the loads are equal so power used over each load is equal. 6.0 volts used over each load. NEXT

  8. Question 1 Using your DVOM place you leads on either side of the load. Circuit with signal load on a open circuit. What is the power or voltage used over the light on the open circuit? NEXT

  9. 12.00 volts 6.00 volts 0 volts 8 volts

  10. INCORRECT NEXT

  11. INCORRECT 12.00 volts would be incorrect. This circuit is open. No voltage is flowing through the circuit. So you would not use any voltage over the given load device. NEXT

  12. INCORRECT NEXT

  13. INCORRECT 6.00 volts would be incorrect. This circuit is open. No voltage is flowing through the circuit. So you would not use any voltage over the given load device. NEXT

  14. INCORRECT NEXT

  15. INCORRECT 6.00 volts would be incorrect. This circuit is open. No voltage is flowing through the circuit. So you would not use any voltage over the given load device. NEXT

  16. CORRECT NEXT

  17. Correct The circuit is open, no power is flowing so the power or voltage used over the load is 0 volts. NEXT

  18. Question 2 Using your DVOM place you leads on either side of the load. Circuit with Signal load on a closed circuit. What is the power or voltage used over the light on the closed circuit? NEXT

  19. 12.00 volts 6.00 volts 0 volts 8 volts

  20. INCORRECT NEXT

  21. INCORRECT 6.00 volts would be incorrect. This circuit is closed with only one load device. When only one load device is used all of the voltage or power is used. So all 12 volts would be used over the light. NEXT

  22. INCORRECT NEXT

  23. INCORRECT 0 volts would be incorrect. This circuit is closed with only one load device. When only one load device is used all of the voltage or power is used. So all 12 volts would be used over the light. NEXT

  24. INCORRECT NEXT

  25. INCORRECT 8 volts would be incorrect. This circuit is closed with only one load device. When only one load device is used all of the voltage or power is used. So all 12 volts would be used over the light. NEXT

  26. CORRECT NEXT

  27. Correct • The circuit is closed, power is flowing so all of the power or voltage is used over the load. So your DVOM reads 12.00 volts. NEXT

  28. Definition • A voltage drop is the representation of energy used over a load device or resistance device in a circuit. • If all loads are equal the amount of energy used over each load or resistance is equal. NEXT

  29. Legend • Battery • Ground • Open switch • Closed switch • Resistance • DVOM (Digital volt ohm meter) NEXT

  30. An open circuit where power is interrupted by an open switch, their would beno power used over the load device. Place the DVOM leads on either side of the load device and set your meter to direct voltage. The meter will read the total power used over the load device.Since the circuit is open no power is used NEXT

  31. 34. Question 3 Using your DVOM place you leads on either side of the loads. Circuit with two equal loads on a open circuit. What is the power or voltage used over the light on the open circuit? NEXT

  35. 12.00v, 12.00v 12.00v, 6.00v 6.00v, 6.00v 0.00v, 0.00v

  36. INCORRECT NEXT

  37. INCORRECT 12.00v, 12.00v would be incorrect. This circuit is open with two load devices. No power or voltage is flowing through the circuit. So you would not use any voltage over the given load devices. NEXT

  38. INCORRECT NEXT

  39. INCORRECT 12.00v, 6.00v would be incorrect. This circuit is open with two load devices. No power or voltage is flowing through the circuit. So you would not use any voltage over the given load devices. NEXT
