Today’s Agenda • The purpose of our educational webinar is to raise awareness in the broadband programs of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 199 (ARRA), to generate real interest in applying for the grants under these programs, and to discussion possible applications strategies as another step to accelerate broadband in rural, unserved, and underserved areas.

The Broadband Opportunities The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 On February 13, the U.S. Congress passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) On February 17, the President signed the $787 billion bill into law.
The Broadband Opportunities - $7.2 Billion Commerce’s Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) Agriculture’s Rural Utilities Service (RUS) • BTOP will award over $4.7 billion to develop and expand broadband services to unserved and underserved areas and improve access to broadband by public safety agencies. • $250 million will be available for innovative programs that encourage sustainable adoption. • At least $200 million will be available to upgrade technology and capacity at public computing centers, including community colleges and public libraries; • Up to $350 million of the BTOP funding is designated for the development and maintenance of statewide broadband inventory maps. • An additional $2.5 billion for grants, loans, loan guarantees for rural America's broadband infrastructure by: • Providing funds for construction, improvement, and acquisition of facilities to provide broadband service. • Bringing educational and telemedicine resources to rural schools and clinics through the distance learning program. • The Community Connect Grant program provides financial assistance to provide currently unserved areas with broadband service for economic growth and public safety services.
