Our Third Grade Curriculum Language Arts We employ a balanced approach to reading and writing instruction utilizing Journeys, our Language Arts program! • Guided Reading • Fountas & Pinell Assessments to group & monitor progress • Small group instruction • Centers, Partner Activities, Independent work • Shared Reading • Whole class instruction • Teacher’s read aloud are used to model thinking skills and reading strategies • Word Study • An interactive program that directly teaches encoding and decoding words through modeling and active learning. Students are taught to blend and segment sounds. • Writing /Grammar • Narrative • Informative • Persuasive • Mini-lessons teach students to apply grammar skills

Our Third Grade Curriculum MATHEMATICS • Our math program is Envisions 2.0. • EnVisions 2.0 is a program that encourages differentiation, conceptual development of math concepts, and development of problem solving skills. • You can access the curriculum online at www.pearsonrealize.com Your child has been set up with a username and password for full access to the program. • Basic math skills are also reinforced through Rocket Math (Otter Creek)

  4. Social Studies Topics covered in Social Studies are: • Geography of New Jersey • Laws of a new nation; government

  5. Science Topics covered in in our TCI Science are: • Organisms and their Environments • Forces and Motion • Weather and Climate • Life Cycles • Traits

  6. Make sure to bring a healthy and satisfying snack to school each day.

  7. Each day we break for recess. • Keep in mind to come prepared wearing appropriate clothing for the season.

  8. Specials • Please check your child’s special schedule on Genesis. • Remember to wear or bring sneakers for PE and Extra Gym days.

  9. If you have any questions about this presentation please do not hesitate to contact your child’s homeroom teacher. Just a friendly reminder to check the third grade site for daily assignments and news.
