  2. Action Research Question • Will improvements in the quality of homework increase student achievement on assessments

  3. I have one advanced world history class of 20 students and two classes of college prep world history of 21 and 22 students. • I was only told by my superiors that I should not continue my research with one of my classes due to a new pending lawsuit with a student in one of my classes. (the lawsuit has nothing to do with my class) • I used one advanced world history class and one college prep world history class from this semester and also used the same classes with different students from the previous semester.

  4. Changes in Homework • My changes to the class discuss the objective of every homework assignment in class and print it on every homework assignment. • Also, I returned every homework assignment with written feedback within 2 days.

  5. All of my students took a pre and post survey through surveymonkey.com

  6. Survey question 1. I understand the objective and the purpose of my homework assignments. • # 4 (I disagree with this statement) went from 10% to 2%.

  7. Survey question 2 I understand why I did well or poorly on my homework assignments. • I strongly agree with the statement went from 28% to 36%.

  8. I compared my test scores of before and after the action research. I also compared the same test data to the previous semester to take into account a more difficult test.

  9. There was no evidence that my changes in homework had an impact on the assessments

College Prep class • # 1 = 1st semester and the first six assignments. 39 out of 133 assignments for a total of 29% were incomplete assignments • #2= 1st semester and the second group of six assignments 36 out of 133 assignments for a total of 27% of homework assignments that were incomplete. For a total change of 8% fewer missing assignments. • #3= 2nd semester before the action research project. 43 out of 133 assignments were incomplete for a total of 32.2% incomplete assignments • #4= 2nd semester during and after the action research project. 25 out of 133 assignments were incomplete for a total of 18.7% for a total change of 42% fewer missing assignments.

  11. Advanced Class 1st semester 20% to 28.3 missing assignments. Increase of 41% of missing assignments 2nd semester 18% to 10 % and decrease of 43% of missing assignments.

  12. There was a large increase in the number of homework assignments turned in when I compared it to both the previous semester and before and after the action research project.

  13. I will continue to place the objective on every homework assignment and discuss the objective with all my students when I give it to them. While I did not see the increase in assessment scores I had hoped for, I did see a huge increase in the amount of homework assignments turned in. Reflection
