  2. Willis Carrier • Willis Carrier is the man who invented the most amazing invention in history; the air conditioner. • He was born November 26, 1875. • His dad runs the family farm and his mom fixes things. • He went to Cornell university.

  3. Why he invented this • He invented this from an idea from an old project. The old project was a system for printing companies to keep the ink at the right temperature. He was working with controlling humidity. Than he wanted to try to make a cooling system.

  4. The first air conditioners The first ones were being installed in 1914 and for many different types of factories such as soap factories, tobacco factories, and rubber factories. They were also put into department stores. They were also dangerous because of the high levels of ammonia that was used as a coolant. After World War 2, they started to put air conditioners into homes.

  5. Than and now • The first air conditioners were very large. They used ammonia as a coolant. They were very expensive and mainly only factories and large buildings had they, as they were designed. • Air conditioners now are pretty small. They are a lot cheaper than they were back than. They use refrigerant as a cooler. They come in many different types such as one can go into a window, or one that is a box outside and uses a fan to bring in air which send cool air through out the house using vents.
