  2. Mediterranean What is it? Location • The Mediterranean Sea is a large sea or body of water • It’s located between Europe, northern Africa and south-western Asia Etymology The original sense being of "sea in the middle of the earth,“ from medius"middle" + terra "land, earth"

  3. The tides in the Mediterranean are not as prominent as the tides in other seas. History Importance Greatness • Several ancient civilizations were located around its shores; thus it has had a major influence on those cultures. • It provided routes for trade, colonization and war for numerous communities throughout the ages. • Around the Mediterranean were developed from the earliest years old and important civilizations that left their mark and the subsequent evolution of humanity. • For many thousands of years it was the centre of culture around the world.

Climate • Because of the location and because it is a closed sea with only two exits off the coast --prevails mild climate, similar to what exists in few places in the world and it is called Mediterranean . • The Mediterranean climate is wide known and rare. Characterized by hot summers and mild winters.
