  2. Avoid unnecessary stress Benefits • You don’t have to deal with the stress anymore. • You aren’t constantly worried about something. Negatives • Sometimes one may avoid something that is necessary. • Sometimes the stress you’re dealing with is necessary, so this method doesn’t work.

  3. Change the Situation Benefits • It can change for the better. • By changing the situation you can fix the problem faster. Negatives • The situation could become worse. • You could get into even more trouble. • Sometimes you have to compromise.

  4. Adapt to the Stressor Benefits • The situation hopefully improves. • You learn to deal with this stressor in a way that is positive, not just a way that is bringing you down. Negatives • You will have to change. • The amount you have to change depends on the situation

  5. Accept the things you can’t change Benefits • The stress could go away. Negative • You might have to accept things you don’t want to. Examples: Accept the fact that you have three tests on back to back to back days or accept the fact that you are getting home late tonight and you have a lot of homework.

  6. Make time for fun and relaxation Benefits • You’ll be happy. • The stress goes down. • You could forget about the stress Negatives • Could take up too much time. Examples: Playing a favorite sport, reading a book, or hanging out with friends.

  7. Adopt a healthy life style Benefits • You’ll live longer. • You’ll be healthy. • More self-confidence Negatives • None Examples: Eating healthy foods, getting out to exercise, and keeping fit.
