Aim of Survey • How are the small businesses that were set up in 2010 doing in the current market place? • How useful/relevant was the Enterprise Support Service provided by PAUL Partnership? • What can we learn from the experiences of these small businesses – Current market place; role of PAUL Partnership?

  5. Methodology • Telephone Survey: • 160, 2010 enterprise clients contacted • 66 completed questionnaires • Response Rate = 41% • Non respondents: • Non contactable; each enterprise called three times before being deemed ‘non-respondent’ • Declined to participate

  12. Back to work Enterprise Allowance (BTWEA) • Of the 42 clients still trading – 38% are still in receipt of BTWEA (All due to end by December 2012) • The remaining 62% finished BTWEA at various stages within the past year but have managed to remain ‘open for business’

Overview of Findings • Overall findings are positive • Almost two thirds of Start Ups still in business • In total 55 new jobs created from 2010 enterprise Clients • 11% of clients report a turnover in excess of 41K • Many view the Business market today as stagnant, not declining • 54% of clients no longer trading are engaged in employment or education • The enterprise services and training provided by PAUL Partnership are having a positive impact

Going forward • While results are positive, improvements can be made • ‘Follow Up’ process when BTWEA ends • Assistance from Government • Access to grants/low interest loans • Tax breaks • Reduction in rates • Highlight the importance of • Market Research • Consultation Process • Enterprise Training
