  2. The Maasi People • The Maasai (sometimes spelled "Masai" or "Masaai") are an well-known semi-nomadic ethnic group located in Kenya and Tanzania. • One reason they are so well-known is because they live near game parks where tourists visit, and because of their distinctive customs and dress

  3. Vanishing Culture • As this United Nations video reveals, many of the Maasai are concerned with their vanishing culture • The Tanzanian and Kenyan governments have instituted programs to encourage the Maasai to abandon their traditional semi-nomadic lifestyle, but the people have continued their age-old customs

Maasai Tribal Culture • They are hghlypatriarchcal meaning they men tend to make and enforce the rules and laws • Because of high infant mortality rates, they do not recognize a tribal member until age 3. • Cattle are the driving force of their economy, ceremony, and overall way of life.   5. Traditional Homes • Traditional Maasai homes were made using indiginous technology and materials. • They are circular or star shaped, and are constructed by the women of the tribe. • They use wood, braches, plaster made of mud/grass/dung and ash.
