Childhood He started creating at the age of 8. He traveled through the country throughout his childhood. His first piece of art was a sculpture of a waddling duck. He had his own workshop as a child.
Adulthood He enrolled at a college for art in 1923. He did his first illustration in 1925. In 1936, he moved to Paris. From the 1940s on most of his works were moving mobiles. In Paris, he met Stanley Williams, who exhibited most of Calder’s works, and Joan Miro, who became his lifelong friend.
Artwork He made mobiles, sculptures, and paintings. He did shows with his artwork, like Calder’s Circus. Most of his artwork is abstract. Most of his artwork uses the primary colors; red, yellow, and blue.
Miscellaneous He was born in 1898, and died in 1976. He was born in Philadelphia. His wife was Louisa James, and his two daughters were Sandra and Mary. He had his first solo show at the Weyle Gallery in New York. He started to be an artist when he saw both the sun and moon in the sky, and he thought it was very beautiful.
