  2. Calligraphy Calligraphy is also considered an art - 藝術/艺术 Chinese: yishu, a relatively recent word meaning: “art”, where works are appreciated more oronly for their aesthetic qualities. The English word “Calligraphy” refers to that which is “beautiful writing”, thus includes both aspects.

  4. Longevity Symbol Longevity is the most highly esteemed value of the five-fold happiness's. The desire for long life is embodied many Chinese traditions. Longevity wishes are inscribed on scrolls, engraved in bronze, and embroidered.

  5. Chinese Yin Yang The meaning of the characters for yin and yang, has more than just one connotation. Basically interpreted, yang means "sunny", so it corresponds to the day and more active functions. Whereas yin, means "shady", and corresponds to night and less active functions.
