  2. Digital to $$$$ • Collect Money from Insurance Companies eg: 53% decrease in claims rejected, decreased average time in accts receivable • Avoid getting sued eg: 1200 wrong dosages avoided • Save on Personnel costs eg: Reduce temp staff, e-XRAYs etc.

  3. Other benefits • Improved quality of care • Less admin stuff • Less paperwork for doctors to deal with • Savings of $140 billion nationwide So we should just do it, Right ???? NO !!!!!

  4. CATCH 22’s • To save money you have to spend money -$33,000 per doctor plus $1500 per month -have to change decade old practices • People who benefit the most pay the least !!

  5. The Software Beast !!! • Software is never plug & play • Requires extensive maintenance & costs not clear upfront • Different systems need to talk to each other • Hundreds of vendors like McKesson to EHTI with 1000’s of products • Kaiser Permanante failed & redoing it at a $3.2 billion price tag.

  6. Dual Problems • Incentive • What to buy !! ------EMR highly recommended !!! Sweden’s at 90 % while we are at 20 %

  7. Solutions---Incentives • Insurance companies playing a carrot and stick approach with providers • BlueCross, WellPoint have spent millions to help doctors go electronic • Medicare, Medicaid, VA and Federal Government taking lead.

  8. Solutions-What to buy!! • Veterans leading the way !!! • Electronic record system called Vista • Outperformed other providers in a lot of benchmarks. • Increased vaccinations to 94 % and saving 600 lives FREE !!!!!!!!!!

  9. Veterans Still Serving the Nation !! • Veterans have modified Vista to create WorldVista. • Easy for small practice to use and still cheaper than buying software. • Medicare and Medicaid encouraging people to use it !!

  10. Conclusion • EMR will save $$$ in the long run • There need to be incentives • Implementation not easy • Standardization Needed • Use WorldVista if you can’t buy anything !!
