  4. Goals of the Eco-Cup • To raise awareness of the Environmental Resident program • To make people more aware of their actions • To engage students in discussions on sustainability • To motivate students to feel personally responsible for the future

  5. Meeting the Goals • Eight total events: • Waste Weighing • Kick-off Party • Keeping the Earth • The Global Banquet • Ecopsychology: Restoring the Earth, Healing the Self • Displays: • What could have been recycled • Litter, dorm trash • Eco-Trivia • Keynote speaker, Sarah J. 6. The Eco-Cup Pledge • As a student at the University of the South, and once I leave this community I pledge to embrace sustainable practices in my daily life to “meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". While this may prove trying at times I recognize the need for, and importance of this goal. • At Sewanee, and in future communities where I may participate, I pledge to promote sustainable futures through education programs, improvements within the campus environment, outreach activities, and environmentally responsible stewardship of all resources entrusted to me. • These exercises will exhibit environmentally sound stewardship of the land and aim to protect and preserve biodiversity as well as work to improve energy efficiency in facilities and equipment within my community. • Because these tasks may prove difficult and the workday is often fast paced these challenges require focus and commitment. To remind myself why these values are important to me I pledge to make an effort daily to spend at least five minutes sitting in the outdoors.

  7. The Competition • Individuals will be awarded prizes for attendance at Eco-Cup events • Dorms are given points, based on percentages, for participation at Eco-Cup events • Points are given for the dorms that have the greatest percent reduction of electric, gas and water usage • The dorm with the most points will be awarded a Foosball Table

  8. Plans for the Future • Make the Eco-Cup an annual event • Green renovations of campus buildings • Renewable energy purchases • Composting in the cafeteria • Determine why students waste and find ways to reduce • Measure the impact of the Eco-Cup
